The Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratory functions under subsections – Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Urine and Semen lab, Cytopathology, Histopathology and 24 x 7 Emergency laboratory.

ROUTINE LAB
1. HAEMATOLOGY
Equipments
a. Fully automated Haematology analyzers
b. Fully automated coagulation analyzer.
c. Fully automated HbA1c estimation
Tests: (Approx. 60,000 - 80,000/Month)
- Complete Haemogram/ CBC( Hb, TLC, DLC, Platelet count)
- ESR
- PCV/ Haematocrit
- Reticulocyte count
- RBC Indices (RBC count, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW)
- Absolute Eosinophil Count
- Peripheral Blood Smear
- Smear for Malaria Parasite
- G6PD
- PT/PTI/INR
- APTT/ PTTK
- Bleeding time
- Clotting Time
- Bone Marrow aspiration and analysis
- Glycosylated Hb/ HbA1c
- ABO Rh Blood Grouping
All the above tests are done on all the working days for Outdoor as well as Indoor patients.
2. BIOCHEMISTRY Equipments
a. 2 Nos. of Fully automated Biochemistry analyzer
b. Automated ELISA washer and reader
c. Fully automated electrolyte analyzer.
d. Semi Automated Biochemistry Analyzer
Tests: (Approx. 75,000 - 85,000/Month)
- General Chemistries (Glucose- Fasting, Post Prandial, GTT, Random
- Renal Function Tests: Urea, Creatinine, Electrolytes, Uric Acid
- Liver Function Tests: Bilirubin (Total and Direct), AST (SGOT), ALT(SGPT), ALP (Alk Phosphatase), Total Protein, Albumin, Albumin/ Globulin ratio
- Lipid Profile : Total Cholesterol, Triglyceride, HDL, LDL and VLDL
- Thyroid Profile : T3, T4, TSH by ELISA
- Amylase, Lipase, CPK-MB, Calcium, Inorganic Phosphorus
- Biochemical Analysis of Body Fluids : Protein and Glucose
- HB1AC Estimation by fully automated analyzer on Tuesday and Friday
Thyroid Profile ( done on all days by appointment), all the above tests are done on all the working days for Outdoor as well as Indoor patients
3. URINE + SEMEN LAB
Tests: (Approx. 3,000 - 4,000/Month)
- Urine Complete Exam (Biochemical for Protein and Glucose and Microscopy for Pus cells/ RBCs/Cast/ Crystals)
- Specific Gravity, PH, Urobilinogen, Haemoglobin, Ketone Bodies
- 24 Hours Urine Proteins
- Semen analysis : Sperm counts, Motility, Sperm morphology, Pus cells
All the above tests are done on all the working days for Outdoor as well as Indoor patients
4. CYTOPATHOLOY Equipment
a. Cytocentrifuge
Tests: (Approx 200 - 250/ Month)
a. FNAC - 150 procedures per month
b. PAP - 65 – 75 per month
c. Body Fluid - 70 – 80 per month
- Fine Needle Aspiration procedure : Lymph Nodes, Salivary Glands, Thyroid, Breast and Mediastinal and Abdominal masses (under USG guidance)
- Body Fluid Cytology : CSF, Ascitic Fluid, Pleural Fluid, Knee aspirate
- Malignant Cytology : Body Fluids, Sputum, Bronchial Lavage fluid, Ovarian Cyst fluid
- PAP Smear (Cervico- Vaginal) analysis for Malignant and Inflammatory lesions
All the above tests are done on all the working days for Outdoor as well as Indoor patients.
5. HISTOPATHOLOGY: -

- Mastectomies, Hysterectomies, Ovarian Cysts, Leiomyomas, Cholecystectomies, Lymph Nodes, Salivary Glands, Thyroid, Orchiectomies, Fibroadenomas, Fistulectomies, Sinus Tracts, Cutaneous Cysts and Lipomas, Soft Tissue Tumours,
- GI Endoscopic biopsies, Endometrial biopsies, Cervical Biopsies, Bone Biopsies, Tongue biopsies, Skin biopsies, Fallopian tube fragments,
All the above specimens are received on all working days.
6. MICROBIOLOGY Equipments

Tests: ( Approx. 10,000 - 15,000/Month)
- Bacteriological Culture and Antibiotic sensitivity : Blood, Urine, Pus, Throat swab, Stool, Body fluids (CSF, Ascitic fluid, Pleural fluid) Semen/ Vaginal Fluid.
- Gram’s Staining
- Ziehl Neelson staining for AFB
- Stool exam for Ova/ Cyst
- Stool for Occult Blood
- Bacteriological surveillance (post fumigation swab) : Operation Theateres, Nursuries, Labour Rooms, Kitchen, CSSD
- Serology : Widal, HBsAg,HCV, Rhematoid factor, Anti Streptolysin, C-Reactive Protein, Dengue (NS1 and IgM ELISA), RPR, RDT for Malaria, HIV
- Drinking Water Analysis for fresh faecal contamination
- Hanging Drop test for Cholera stools
All the above tests are done on all the working days for Outdoor as well as Indoor patients.
7. EMERGENCY LAB (24 X 7)
- Haematology : CBC/Haemogram, PCV/Haematocrit, RBC Indices, Bleeding Time, Clotting time, RDT for Malaria
- Biochemistry : Blood Sample: Glucose (Random), Urea, Creatinine, Electrolytes, Amylase, Lipase, CPK-MB, Bilirubin, AST (SGOT), ALT (SGPT), ALP (Alk Phosphatase) Total Proteins, Serum woman and Serum Calcium Levels
- Body fluid : Glucose and Protein
- Clinical Pathology :
- Urine: Biochemistry- Protein, Glucose, Ketone Bodies
- Microscopy: Pus cells, RBCs, Cast, Crystals
- Body Fluids: Biochemistry – Protein, Glucose
- Microscopy: TLC and DLC
- Diarrheal Stool: Hanging Drop test
- Microbiology : Samples are received for
- Dengue Serology (samples received, transported & tested in Microbiology lab)
- Blood Culture ( samples received, incubated and transported to routine Microbiology lab for processing and reporting)
- Swine flu/ Avian flu (samples collected, packed and transported to designated reference lab for processing and reporting)
All the above tests are done round the clock (24x7) for patients in Emergency wards, Labour room as well as Indoor patients.
