Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs)
In February 2018, the Government of India's announced the creation of 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) by transforming existing Sub Centres and Primary Health Centres as the base pillar of Ayushman Bharat. These centres would deliver Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) bringing healthcare closer to the homes of people covering both maternal and child health services and non-communicable diseases, including free essential drugs and diagnostic services.
Launch of Health & Wellness Centres Concept in U.T Chandigarh in F.Y 2018-19.The concept of Health & Wellness Centre is to provide a basket of comprehensive health services to the beneficiary. Keeping in view of the promotive, preventive and curative health care.
Comprehensive Primary Health Services to be provided:
- Care in Pregnancy and child birth
- Neonatal and Infant Health care services
- Childhood and Adolescent Health Care Services
- Family Planning, RCH services etc.
- Management of Communicable Diseases
- OPD services
- Screening, Prevention, Control and Management of NCDs
- Care of common Eye in ENT problems
- Basic Oral Health Care
- Geriatric Health Care
- Screening and basic management of Mental Health Ailments
- Yoga services

- Malaria Worker
Service Delivery and Continuum of Care
- All the Medical Officers have been adequately trained for delivery of all components of comprehensive health Care to the beneficiaries.
- All Medical Officers of existing HWC have been trained for undertaking VIA technique for screening of Cervical Cancer.
- Population based NCD screening has been started at all HWCs.
- The LHVs/ANMs have been provided with 196 numbers of Tablets in order to undertake real time data capturing wherever applicable.
- All the HWCs are being interconnected with implementation of networking of all the health facilities.
- Computers along with peripherals have been procured for the HWCs – Installation under in process.
- Some of the HWCs have been identified as Pivot for facilitating the Diagnostic Services falling under its ambit.
- Two CB-NAAT machines are available at Health facility for conducting the presence of TB Bacteria & presence of resistance.
- One Mobile Van is also operational in UT, Chandigarh with CB-NAAT testing facility under RNTCP
